Humanity is a pinprick of madness in the lifetime of the universe, a thousand bees swarming a dying queen that refuses to yield, collecting honey and stealing kisses from flowers.
The earth will keep spinning long after we are dead and buried, history collapsing into legends and rumor, rewritten to better suit each time and place, a foot span on eternity's trail.
Love and life and war and death go on, a cycle of water and fire turning on fortunes wheel where the throw of the dice began with snake eyes long ago and will end with a hard twelve at midnight.
So it goes.
Empires will rise and fall and stumble in between, brick to stone and dust to ashes, a churning sea of shifting powers that threaten the foundations of the earth but then barely leave any footprints behind.
The lion will never lie down with the lamb, he will tear into hot flesh and bone and wipe his bloody mouth with the wool, but the eagle will still fly alongside the hummingbird.
The child will never stop believing and the adult will always forget, but there are plenty enough miracles and mysteries to satisfy curiosity and to hand down through the generations.
And so it goes.
Stars will burn out and oceans will shrivel, trees will crash noiselessly in an abandoned forest, crows will circle overhead, and the earth will weep for the ignorance and the forgotten innocence of humanity while the moon only laughs, empty and alone in the night.
And so it goes, so it goes, so it goes.
:) Kathryn
